Brief of "Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1)" Kindle Book :There’s always been something a bit off about Perry Palomino. Though she’s been dealing with a quarter-life crisis and post-college syndrome like any other twentysomething, she’s still not what you would call “ordinary.” For one thing, there’s her past which she likes to pretend never happened, and then there’s the fact that she sees ghosts. Luckily for her, that all comes in handy when she stumbles across Dex Foray, an eccentric producer for an upcoming webcast on ghost hunters. Even though the show’s budget is non-existent and Dex himself is a maddening enigma, Perry is instantly drawn into a world that both threatens her life and seduces her with a sense of importance. Her uncle’s haunted lighthouse provides the perfect catalyst and backdrop for a horrific mystery that unravels the threads of Perry’s fragile sanity and causes her to fall for a man, who, like the most dangerous of ghosts, may not be all that he seems.

Oh my freaking God! Why did I take so long to pick up this kindle book?
The entire time I was reading this kindle book, I felt as if I was watching an episode of a brand new series. Now, I can't wait to read the next installments.
The plot is amazing, like 5-star amazing. I love ghost stories and EVERYTHING paranormal so this kindle book is totally within my league and the fact that the kindle book kept me on my toes and thrilled and eventually scared me as well, makes this kindle book even better!
The characters are realistic. They're people who have/had problems. Dex has a split personality which kind of scares me a bit and Perry is hilarious, was a druggie back in highschool, and just got out of college and is striving to go on day-to-day as a receptionist. Oh and she can see ghosts too. The way Halle describes what Perry sees is extremely descriptive and fluid, that you can't help but be where Perry is. The secondary characters on the other hand, help keep the story together. Matt and Tony were one of my favs. Those twins were hilarious and just plain old weird. They kind of reminded me of my brother, minus the drinking and whatever else they do thats "bad".
Now, Perry has the hots for Dex and we don't know how Dex feels about her because he has a girlfriend who is immensely hot and he is also 10 years older. Not only is Perry insecure, but feels like a child around him and sometimes a psycho. I love the push and pull that happens between the two. It keeps the situation realistic.
Overall, Darkhouse is amazing. Halle has delivered to the public such an incredible kindle book that is definitely movie/series-worthy. I just want to keep reading until there isn't anything else left to read from the series. The narrative was written well, the descriptions were vivid and the plot is 5-star amazing. A brilliant unputdownable kindle book from Karina Halle that'll definitely rock your socks off!

First Thoughts:
I picked this kindle book up on a day that was dark and all it wanted to be is cold and rainy and let me tell you this kindle book added in the creep factor. It was dark and well described; the scenes seemed to have a mind of their own. Now don't take this the wrong way but I usually have a hard time getting through horror type kindle books and this by any means isn't a horror kindle book but it has a feel of one. The way the author chose to describe the main focus of the kindle book made the feel of it much darker and creepy. But also the beginning of this kindle book didn't really draw me in, to be honest I really didn't like the main character, she complained way too much and she had a personality that I usually in real life shy away from but yet I continued reading and the more I read and Dex was introduced my liking of the main character changed, she started showing sides of her I didn't know she had and I was able to finally let her in. I became so intrigued with the storyline that I just wanted to keep reading and once I got past the beginning of the kindle book I was able to read at a much more enjoyable and faster pace. I would gauge though this isn't a high thriller pace it does have a sense of action packed and fast pace, so much was introduced in this book; so many ideas and problems, I liked the fact that there were problems set up in just the right spots to be resolved in the next kindle books, it definitely left me yearning for more. The Plot of the kindle book was good, there were all the required elements and everything that needed to be there was there and there was even a great subplot in this kindle book, I really enjoyed reading about how her old life and her new life were intercepting, it really brought in a whole new level and feel to the kindle book. Not many kindle books are able to bring the past and the future together to create the present but in this kindle book you could see it. As for the characters themselves, I thought each one had a distinct personality, I especially enjoyed the character of Dex, and he had that stereotypical mysteriousness about him but with an added element of surprise; he in the ended didn't fully fit that mold. As for Perry which is the main character though like I said I really didn't enjoy in the beginning made a small transformation that allowed me to see a deeper self of her and opened up a new dimension to where I actually begun to understand why she was like she was. But there was one character that fell a little flat to me that I wish I could have been privileged to learn more about; Uncle Al. I felt that he could have added even more to this story, I know he has a story of his own and perhaps if we could have seen just a little bit more into his past I could understand why he felt the way he did in this kindle book but perhaps we'll learn more about him in the kindle books to come. As for the description in this kindle book it definitely was there, there wasn't too much but at times it got very descriptive to the point where I wanted the sun to come out or turn on a light, I know pathetic but the author did a great job at creating a picture where you couldn't help but cringe. It was an enjoyable read; one that will keep you with the lights one.
Goodreads Summary:
Enter the world of the highly-acclaimed Experiment in Terror Series by visiting...the Darkhouse:
There's always been something a bit off about Perry Palomino. Though she's been dealing with a quarter-life crisis and post-college syndrome like any other twenty-something, she's still not what you would call "ordinary." For one thing, there's her past which she likes to pretend never happened, and then there's the fact that she sees ghosts. Luckily for her, that all comes in handy when she stumbles across Dex Foray, an eccentric producer for an upcoming webcast on ghost hunters. Even though the show's budget is non-existent and Dex himself is a maddening enigma, Perry is instantly drawn into a world that both threatens her life and seduces her with a sense of importance. Her uncle's haunted lighthouse provides the perfect catalyst and backdrop for a mystery that unravels the threads of Perry's fragile sanity and causes her to fall for a man, who, like the most dangerous of ghosts, may not be all that he seems.
Last Thoughts:
I would recommend this to any fan of ghost stories and to those of you who enjoy mysteriousness and darkness, this definitely satisfies anyone's craving for a kindle book full of ghosts and mystery. I wouldn't recommend this to people who don't enjoy ghosts and stories that could in a way be confusing if you weren't actively reading at certain parts; though to be honest there were only a couple of those scenes. One thing I did enjoy about this kindle book was the title; I thought it fit the story so perfect and it was so clever and creative at the same time. It really just brought the whole kindle book and story together. I really did enjoy this kindle book and look forward to reading other kindle books by this author.

Some readers may shy away from a first time self published author. But in this case they would be doing themselves a disservice. Ms. Halle is a first time author, that is true, but to say that she is one of the more compelling voices in Rock Journalism today would not be stretching the truth. This novel is not written by someone with little writing experience and big dreams. It is written by an already talented journalist and blogger, who writes constantly. Simply, Ms. Halle is already a writer who has finally decided to bring that writing talent to telling a narrative story.
In Darkhouse we are confided to, in the first person narrative, all of young Perry Palomino's fears, hopes, dreams, and desires. From the mundane (how to find her career path), to the supernatural. The supernatural story plot is filled with creep factor and thrills, though it is the weakest link in the kindle book. The shining gem and strength of the novel rests in the characters Perry and Dex, and their complicated sometimes volatile relationship. This is a horror fiction with many of horror fiction's trappings and cliches, but it's also a mystery. The mystery and labyrinth to be unraveled is the character Dex. All at once a rake, creep, gentleman, he is a conundrum, and man after my own heart. The interplay of the two characters is as exacerbating for us as it is for them. There is a barely perceptible torrent of desire in it's beginning stages in this first kindle book of the Experiment In Terror series, that leaves its readers wanting more.
The kindle book suffers, but not greatly, with it's supernatural plot. It is chilling enough with plenty of tension and fast pacing to advance the story along. It just falls a little short of such strong characters. But I understand that it serves as the catalyst that brings Perry and Dex together, and parallels their convoluted relationship. Minor grammatical errors, common in self published kindle books, are few and not too distracting.
A great kindle book to bring to the beach, or curl up late at night with a bottle of wine, Perry will tell you everything, except that which she can not yet face. Maybe if we keep reading we'll hear it all.
